His education began at Edwards Attendance Center and he graduated  from Edwards Jr. High.  David west on to Hinds Agricultural High School, but received his GED in Kansas.   He also attended Donnely Junior College in Kansas City, and Topeka Business School in Topeka, Kansas.  David worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia as well as Le Tourneau in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  This is when his friends fondly called him Yak.

David is preceded in death by Ms Eunice T. Smith (grandmother), Mr. Robert McGee (father) and Mrs. Ann McGee (mother).  He leaves to cherish his memory a son David, a daughter Evelyn and a step daughter, Stephanie.   He leaves a brother, Robert McGee of Edwards, MS, and four sisters Carolyn (Chester) Glin, Marilyn (Robert) Bryant of Edwards, MS,  Yvette (Michael) Edwards of Molino, Florida and Janice (James) Swinton of Jackson, MS.  Uncle David leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory: Kara, David (Jessica), D'Ante (Raynia), SeVeeta, Katrina (Samuel), Janice, Tabia, Elizabeth, Dennis, Latorria, Aneicia, Rakyane, Taevion, Javion, Dionysis, Imania, Edwin, Lela, Keyshaun, Little Sam, Jy'Ari and Daniel.
