Mr. Burks will be laid to rest Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Willis and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson, MS. His services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Committal will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Edward, MS. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014.
Obituary
Donald Ray Burks entered into this world on December 1, 1963 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to the late Veola Shelby Burks and Tommie Burks. To this union Eleven sibling's were born. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Veola and Tommie Burks; one brother, William Burks; three sisters, Willie Bell Johnson, Maggie Burks and Dorothy Burks.
Ray was baptized and united in Christian fellowship at a very early age at Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In the year of 1966 he decided to commit his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and united with Tabernacle of Faith Church in San Francisco, California under the leadership of Pastor Winzell McCoy. He served as Usher until his health failed.
Ray attended Edwards Elementary, and graduated from Hinds Agricultural High School. Mr. Lewis Lee said that he was one of the best drummers in the band at that time. He continued his education at Utica Jr. College in Utica Mississippi. He later moved to San Francisco, California where he worked various jobs in construction.
The final Chapter of his life was recorded on March 27, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. in Laguna Hospital in San Francisco, California.
Ray was abundantly blessed and leaves loving memories to be cherished by: one son, Kyle Michael Burks of San Francisco, California; two brother Tommie Burks, Jr., and Michael Burks of Vicksburg, Mississippi; four sisters, Bertie Burks, Almeta Burks, Lottie Burks Williams and Patricia Burks all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one special cousin, Freddie Shelby; three special friends, James Hobby, Stanley Mack and Glenn Jefferson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
