Obituary

Retired Brigadier General, James Floyd Hawkins, 91, was born on May 23, 1923, to Floyd K and Mable Dixon Hawkins in Jackson, Mississippi.

He was married to the late Katheryn Benson for over 60 years.  They were the proud parents of two sons, David and Mark Hawkins.  He attended Forest Hill Methodist Church.

At the age of 21 he entered into the United States Army and served his county faithfully as  a fighter pilot in World War II, stationed on the island Iwo Jima.  He received many citations and medals; including the Bronze Service Star, Air Medal and Fighter Command Citation, World War II Victory Medal and the Presidential Citation and Lapel Pin.

After his tour ended in 1946, he returned to his home in Jackson Mississippi and continued to serve his country as a member of the Air National Guard for thirty-eight years.

He leaves to carry on his legacy: his sons, David and Mark Hawkins of Jackson, Mississippi; other family members and friends.
