Obituary

Jimmy Harris Sr., is my name. I was born in Lauderdale County, the fourth of five children born to the union of Robert L. Harris Sr., and Ida Gaddis Harris.  There was my oldest sister Marie, my sister Asalee, my brother Robert and my baby brother Otis.  We moved from Lauderdale County to Hinds County where we finally settled in Edwards, MS in 1962.  It was there, that I learned to farm and joined Mt. Pleasant MB Church.  I would also attend Edwards Jr.  High and after graduating go on to attend Hinds County A.H.S.  There, I enjoyed playing football and performing in the band.  After graduating I went on to attend Alcorn A&M College, where I continued to march in the band.  It was also during this time I met the Lovely LeeVella Nelson who would in 1974 become my wife.  A year prior after graduating I began what would become a nearly 40 year career with Mississippi Valley Gas Company(Atmos Energy). God blessed LeeVella and I with a beautiful daughter Vanessa and a charismatic son Jimmy Jr..  As a family we attended New Lake Church of Christ Holiness USA, where my relationship with Christ grew.  After years of faithful service, I returned home to Edwards, where I would join with my brother Otis to establish The Edwards Revival Center, there I would faithfully serve until God called me home.

                                       **************************************************

Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, LeeVella N. Harris; a loving mother, Ida Gaddis Harris; two children, Vanessa H. White and Jimmy D. Harris Jr.; four grandchildren:  Aaron, Clarence, Jimmy and Alyssa; two sisters:  Marie H. Smith and Asalee Eady (Milton) and two brother:  Robert L. Harris Jr. and Otis (Cheryl) and host of nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was a kind hearted person who never met a stranger.  Willing to help in what ever way he could.  There was never a day that he didn't have something to do for somebody.  Jimmy was a part of so many things:  he was a member and worked with Rissah Temple #130, Jackson Consistory #117, Flaming Sword Lodge #101, Shriner's Motorcycle Club, Miss Valley Gas Credit Union, Hinds County PTA, Jackson Heart Study, Edwards Revival Center, and helped to feed the football team every year for Hinds County A.H.S.  Even with the long list of clubs and organizations he still found time to sit, talk, and mentor to young people.

Jimmy had a number of loves in his life.  If you were to try to place them in order, it might read something like this:  Jimmy loved the Lord, his family, his friends, country lift, his motorcycle and working on old cars.

Jimmy saw good in every thing and everybody.  He didn't do things to glorify of himself but because he had a heart of gold and felt it was just the right thing to do.
