Mr. Greer will be laid to rest Monday, October 24, 2016 at Willis and Sons Funeral Home in the Chapel. His services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Committal will be at Autumn Wood Cemetery in Jackson, MS . Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Willis and Sons Funeral Home, 5235 Robinson Road Ext, Jackson, MS.

Joe Lee Greer was born on August 20, 1935 to the late Freater Burke Greer, but she was known to most as Frede Goldsmith. He was the eldest child of 4 children. His siblings include: Dwight Salaam, Esther Goldsmith (his only sister), and King Goldsmith (his baby brother), who preceded him in death.
Joe and his late wife, Lillie had nine children: Lillie Bee Trotter, (who preceded him in death), twin daughters, Barbara Kay Hemphill and Barbara Fay McQuater (Larry), twin sons, Joe Earvin (Scarlett) and Joseph Earl (Bridgett), Glenn (Priscilla), Roy Lee, Deborah Gates (Frederick), Ruby Denise Greer and the youngest of his children, Tenari Greer.
Joe was an advent baseball player, but he also was a hardworking man. He worked multiple jobs to care for his family. He worked at Sears Roebuck and Company for thirty-seven years before he retired. At night and on weekends, he was a bartender at private clubs and special events. His work habits impressed many people and many of his clients befriended him and offered him other jobs. Because of his perseverance and determination, he never went without having a job.
Joe was a very special person. He loved people and people loved him. He especially loved his grandchildren. Two of his grandchildren shared his birth date and he was fond of that. Joe had a special name for his grandchildren. He called all his grandchildren "Lil' Pooch" and in turn they greeted him as "Granddaddy Lil Pooch". He leaves behind 48 Lil' grand Pooches and 2 Lil' great grand Pooches
