Mr. Johnny (Kirkland) Thames,  funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Willis and Sons  Funeral Home (Chapel), 5235 Robinson Road Extension, Jackson MS at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018  from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Willis and Sons Funeral Home, Jackson MS.   Interment : Cremation.

Obituary

Johnny Thames passed away peacefully at Miller County Hospital in Colquitt, Georgia on Monday, January 8, 2018 with his father and stepmother at his bedside.

Johnny was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Johnny Kirkland and Sidney Thames. He lived in Los Angeles, California from age one to eight. He graduated from Bailey High School in Jackson, Mississippi.

Johnny's mother passed away when he was young. He was raised to manhood by his maternal grandmother, Lula Mae Thames and his dad. He worked two jobs, UPS and the Medgar Evers Airport.

He was married to his sweetheart, the late Jahnka Williams. To this marriage three sons were born, Johnny, Javontaee, and JaQuan Thames. He raised his sons alone until his health failed and Jahnka's sister, Maryum Tolbert took charge of them. In addition, to his mother and wife, Johnny was preceded in death by an uncle, Willie Ray Thames.

He leaves to cherish his memories: three sons; his devoted father Johnny Kirkland and stepmother, Lynda Kirkland of Jackson, Mississippi; one brother, Micheal Thames of Jackson, Mississippi; two stepbrothers, Randy and Aaron Lee; two step sisters, Shaundalyn (Chris) Clark and Jerrica Lee; maternal aunts, Forestine Jennings (James), Juanita Thames, Netchie Deloris Patterson-Samspon, Erise Gail Metellus, and Pastor Audrey Connie Battles; maternal uncle, Wilford Lee Thames (Lucy); paternal aunts, Joan Bryant and Elsie Easley of Sacramento, California and Gwenda Brown (Anthoney) Clinton, Mississippi, Ernestine Barker of Edwards, Mississippi, one uncle, Howard Kirkland Jr. of Medford, Oregon; a special friend, Santana McElroy of Jackson, Mississippi and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
