Obituary
Robert McGee Jr. was the first son and the third child born to the late Robert McGee and Ann Odene Smith McGee on January 1, 1954 in Washington, D.C.
Robert's parents and brother David J. McGee preceded him in death. Robert worked and played hard until he confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. In his Christian journey he was a Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. When he moved back to Edwards, he became a member of New Jerusalem Church, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Robert began his education in Edwards, Mississippi, where he attended Edwards Elementary, Edwards Junior High School. He graduated in 1971 from Hinds County A.H.S. and from Utica Junior College in Utica Mississippi in 1976.
Robert's first two jobs was at MPI in Jackson, Mississippi as a drafter. He later moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi in 1976 and began working as a Ship fitter for Ingalls Shipbuilding. In 1979 he moved to Louisiana and worked for Brown and Root as a ship fitter, he was working at Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard as a ship fitter when he became ill in 2003, and moved to Pensacola, Florida to live with his sister Yvette while going through treatment, later returning to Edwards, Mississippi to live.
When Robert returned home his big brother status did not change. You would often see him in the morning walking with his sister Carolyn or helping Chester repair the lawn mower. He worked with his sister Marilyn to turn a dilapidated lot into Grandma's Ice Cream Shoppe. He helped his sister Janice (James) with projects around the home. He was a member of the Lois Flagg Friends of the Library,
Uncle Rat, as he was called by his (grand) nieces and nephews, was a mentor. He provided unsolicited help to Keyshaun, Doinysis, Javion and Tavion. However, one girl stole his heart, Imania. He has left his legacy with all of them, the importance of a relationship with God and the need of an education.
Robert was married for a time to Jean and helped raise Fe'Dricka, Sherri and Shindell.
Robert leaves the following to cherish his memory: four sisters, Carolyn (Chester) Glin, Marilyn (Robert) Bryant, and Janice (James) Swinton, of Edwards, Mississippi, and Eunice Yvette Edwards-Molino of Florida; nieces and nephews, Kara A. Moore, SeVette McGee, Ellis D'ante (Raynia), David (Jessica), Katrina (Samuel), Janice (Reggie), Tabia Elizabeth, Dennis, Latorrria, Anecica, Reckwane, Taevion, Javion, Doinysis, Imani, Edwin, Lela, Keyshaun, Little Sam, Daniel and Jy'Ari; friends, Mike Ark, Ira and Linda Williams, Brother Joseph, Brother Bell, Sister Earnestine and others.
