Mr. Ingram will be laid to rest Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Emanuel Baptist Church, 1109 Cooper Road, Jackson, MS. His services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Committal will be at Garden Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Emanuel Baptist Church, Jackson, MS from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
Obituary
Sam Ingram, Jr., dad, brother, uncle, and a beloved friend to all at Pleasant Hills Nursing Facility was born August 26, 1932. He was the fifth child born to the late Sam Ingram, Sr., and Jessie Bell Pepper in Yazoo County, Mississippi.
Sam professed his faith and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior a the age of 9. His childhood church was Corn-Cord Baptist Church in Oil City, Mississippi. At mid-life he became a member of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2010 he relocated to Jackson, Mississippi due to health reasons and joined Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jessie Horton.
Sam's education background can be attributed to the Kelly Public School System in Oil City, Mississippi and Piney Woods Institute of Higher Learning in Piney Woods, Mississippi. Upon graduating Piney Woods, Sam got a calling to enlist into the United States Armed Forces (Army). He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1954.
In 1954 Sam entered into holy matrimony to Amelia J. Turner. There were two step children, Booker and Rosemary, and three children born into this union, Jessie, Christopher and Brenda.
Sam's employment history consisted of the following: Dumus Chevrolet in Jackson, Mississippi, (1954), Lincoln-Mercury Company in Joliet, Illinois, (1969), and the Illinois Youth Center in Joilet, Illinois, (1972). He retired from the youth center in 1991. Sam's Love for the Lord and Life made him a man full of great wisdom, which he shared with everyone that had the honor and privilege of his presence both young and old.
He was called to serve in God's heavenly army on December 22, 2015 at 8:11 p.m.
Sam was preceded in death by: his parents and five siblings, Albert, Earline, Eloys, Claudine and Elizabeth.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Jessie (Robert) Mitchell, Brenda Brown and a son-in-law, Richard Brown, Sr., all of Jackson, Mississippi; one brother, James (Nellie) Ingram, Joliet, Illinois; a daughter-in law, Barbara Turner, Memphis, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Tommie Turner, Memphis, Tennessee; one sister, Mary Butler-Smith, Walls, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
