Mr. William "Niddy" Jasper

Service 

Mr. Jasper will be laid to rest Friday, October 23, 2015 at United M. B. Church, 18085 Old Highway 80, Edward, MS.  His services will begin at 1:30 p.m.  Committal will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Edward, MS.   Visitation will be Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Obituary

Mr. William "Niddy" Jasper, Jr., was born on July 9, 1917 (98 years ago) to the late William Jasper, Sr., and Annie Thomas Jasper in Hinds County.

Mr. "Niddy," as he was affectionately known, attended combined school during his early years.  He also did farm labor prior to entering military service in 1942.   He also did farm labor prior to entering military service in 1942.  He remained in the United States Army until an Honorable Discharge (medically connected) in 1945.

Prior to joining the military, he had a daughter, Virgie Perkins Jasper.  Upon returning from service, he furthered his education by attending a Mississippi Trade School in Wood Works.  He also became a certified Licensed Barber in the State of Mississippi, and remained in the work force approximately 65 years.

Later, in 1947, he met and married  Ms. Ora L. Wolfe, and to this union Jacqulyn Jasper and Vernon William Jasper were born.  His wife preceded him in death following 58 years of marriage.  

Brother Jasper was a longtime member and Trustee of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church until death, approximately 70 years.  His hobbies included being an avid fisherman, in and out of the state, and he was a great hunter and outdoors man.   

In addition to his wife, other family members who preceded him in death include daughters, Jacqulyn Jasper and Virgie Jasper Edwards; brothers, Booker Thomas, Oliver Jasper and Samuel Jasper; sisters, Mary E. Gilmore, Willie Mae Jones, and Williette Jasper; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy F. Jasper.

Left to cherish his memories are a son, Vernon W. Jasper; grandsons, Albert Gaskew Jr., Robert (Ann) Frazier; Jarrett Jasper, Sr.; granddaughters, Ellean Gaskew,  Wilma (Melvin) Brown, Dorothea Gaskew; special great grandson, Jarrett Jasper, Jr.; a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends.
