Obituary

Alberta Harvey Carr was born April 3, 1934 to Rufus Harvey and Nancy Lee Horne Harvey in rural Rankin County Mississippi.  She departed into the welcoming arms of Jesus Christ on February 17, 2015 at 6:50 A.M.  She received her high school diploma from Campbell College and went on to attend Jackson State and obtained her bachelor and master's degree.  She married Robert Lee Carr, who proceeded her in death, and to this union six children were born.  Following in her mother's footsteps, she labored for many years to accomplish her goal to become an educator and began her teaching career in Columbus, MS.  She then went on to Sumner Hill High School where she taught French and English.  The remaining years of her teaching career she taught French and English.  The remaining years of her teaching career were spent with the Clinton Public School District from which she retired in 1955.  Throughout this time, many lives were impacted.  Young and old alike were influenced by her dedication and were individually inspired by her to reach their goals.  Not only did she teach to students in the classroom, hours of her time were spent teaching in adult education programs and teaching students of all ages to read and write.  One of her favorite students was her own father who in his 80's improved his literacy and successfully completed the adult education program requirements.  Her personal relationship with Christ began very early in life at St. Matthew M.B. Church and held a special place in her heart where she has been a member for almost 60 years.  Throughout her time at St. Mark she was involved in several ministries.  She served in many roles including a Sunday school teacher for many years, an usher, Missions ministry, choir member, and trustee where she served in capacities from member to secretary to president.  Recently St. Mark honored her with special ceremony to celebrate her many contribution to God's ministry.

She leaves to cherish her memories six children (and their spouses), Albert "Jimmy" (Mary) of Stone Mountain, GA; Ophelia, Clinton, MS; Jeffrey (Lillian), San Diego, CA; Lois (Willie Frank), Raymond, MS; Sordia (Jerry) Clinton, MS; and Rufus (Loretta), Raymond, MS.  There are also 16 surviving grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  She is survived by two sisters, Annie Gale, Jackson, MS and Maxie Cooper, Detroit, MI and one brother, Charlie Harvey, Chicago, IL.  A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and students will miss her.
