Obituary

Betty Jean Thomas Williams was born on a cold winter night in Jackson, Mississippi on December 15, 1943 to the late Reverend Albert Thomas and Iola Campbell Thomas.  She departed this earthly life on April 20, 2016 at University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi on a bright and sunny day.  Betty was the fifth child, full of wisdom and worked hard to accomplish her goals.  She was a blessing to her parents, siblings and others.  She always helped care for her younger sisters and brothers.  She disciplined them as needed, which was often.  She was very mature for her age and it showed in he mannerism.

Betty confessed Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend G. B. Hunt.  Betty later united with Hyde Park MB Church under the leadership of Dr. Leon Bell and desired to be baptized again.  During Betty's later years, she united with Cathedral A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Dr. Reverend John C. Evans.  Betty knew the Lord and she would say often, "I ain't going to hell" and "I love the Lord".  Right up to the end of this earthly journey she re-confessed Jesus Christ and made sure that she repented of all sins.  Praise the Lord! What a mighty God we serve.  If you were hungry, she gave you food.  If you were naked, she gave you clothes.  If you needed shelter, she would let you stay in a second home she owned free of charge.  Betty would help anyone in need.

Betty was married to the late Eugene Williams, Sr., and to the union three children were born.  Betty was preceded in death by: her parents, Reverend Albert and Iola Thomas; husband, Eugene Williams, Sr.; one granddaughter, Shelbie M. Williams; four brothers, Melvin Thomas, Lee A. Thomas, Sylvester Thomas and John W. Thomas; and one sister, Lucille Thomas Kitchen.

Betty attended Mary C. Jones Elementary School, Lanier High School and Jackson State University.  She worked many years as a Sales Associate for Gayfers and Dillards Department Stores.  She loved what she called, "treasure hunting, another name for flea markets, garage sales and antique shopping.  She loved to watch TBN, antique road show and reading her bible.  She was very straight forward and certainly didn't have a problem with sharing her feelings with you.  She was an active member of the Network of God Prayer Club.  She owned several antique and collectible shops before becoming disabled.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory: two faithful and loving sons, Eugene Williams, Jr. (Regina) and Andre S. Williams; one faithful and loving daughter, Valerie R. Buie (Dwayne), two stepdaughters, Johnnie Mae Waples and Barbara A. Williams; one granddaughter, D'Asia Buie; one grandson, Brandon Williams; seven sisters, Elizabeth Pepper, Iola J. Thomas, Daisy Hubbs, Ida Welch, Evern Garland (Pink), Sara Webb, and Peggy McEntee; one brother, Kara Etheridge , one aunt, Lucille Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
