Obituary
Celeste Donaldson was born in Edwards, Mississippi, on the 28th day of January in 1922. She was the first born child of the union of Lonnie Lee Donaldson and Amanda Lloyd.
Celeste met, dated and fell in love with Stacy McDaniel, Jr. They were married in February of 1940. A son, Calvin was born to this union, but died in his infancy.
This Couple moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1947. There they thrived with Stacy working for Ford Motor Company and Celeste continuing her education. Celeste received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1972 and her Masters of Education from Wayne State University in 1974. She was proudly inducted into Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc., in January of 10981.
Celeste began teaching for the Detroit Public Schools in 1972 and retired in 1989. She was a beloved first grade teacher at Tappan Elementary School in Detroit.
A beautiful daughter was born to Celeste and Stacy named Barbara Joan. When Barbara married, she had a beautiful daughter named Tresa. Celesta and Stacy took charge of raising Tresa when Barbara passed.
Celeste loved being a Zeta and actively participated for many years. She also loved playing bridge and was a member of many clubs and bridge tournaments including the Links of VG.
Celeste always had a quick smile or hug to give. Her laugh could light up any room she entered, and she was generous to a fault. She was the favorite Auntie of all her nieces and nephews. She made each of them feel like they were the most important person in the world.
Celeste leaves behind to celebrate her life: a brother, Lee (Geraldine) Donaldson of Detroit, Michigan; two sisters, Amanda Donaldson Hartley (Louis) of Detroit, Michigan and Inez Donaldson Dougherty of Washington, D.C.; four nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends who love and honor her.
