Obituary
Dessie Ree "Sally" Wells, was born April 23, 1939, to the late Eugene Wells, Sr. and Mary Lee Scott Wells, in rural Hinds County, Mississippi.
She Confessed her life to Christ at an early age, was baptized and united with Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Robert Lee Robinson.
She attended Hinds County School and Summer Hill High School in Clinton, Mississippi. Dessie Ree was united in holy matrimony to the late Howard Garner, Sr., on March 12, 1960. Together they reared six children. After marriage, she joined her husband as a member of Bakers Grove Missionary Baptist Church. During her membership, she was a active member. Ms. Dessie, as she was affectionately called, served as a mother, mission member, and choir member. After the passing of her beloved, she returned to her roots and rejoined Pine Grove.
Dessie Ree worked for several years at both Clinton and Jackson Public School Districts. Later she became a personal nanny to Mary Catherine and Ben Sharp.
Dessie Ree was the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend that anyone could ask for and had a great love for her family. She was generally a kind and reserved person, but could be feisty at time with an incredible sense of humor! She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
On January 9, 2017 at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon, God called on Dessie Ree Wells Garner and her heavenly angels - Howard Sr., Robert and Stanley welcomed her home.
Dessie Ree leaves to cherish her memories: a loving daughter, Vickie M Wells of Clinton, Mississippi; three sons, Howard Garner, Jr., (Felicia) of Jackson Mississippi; John H. Garner (Willie Mae) of Flora, Mississippi; Joseph K. Garner (Tasha) of Raymond Mississippi; one daughter-n-law, Elizabeth Wells of Jackson, Mississippi; one brother, Cardoza Wells (Lottie) of Clinton, Mississippi; two sisters, Eveara Manuel and Bernice Manuel, both of Jackson, Mississippi; one brother-in-law, John Hodge, Sr., (Mary) of Jackson, Mississippi; one sister-n-law, Harriette Williams (Paul) of Jackson, Mississippi; and one special niece, Mary L. Wells (Gene) of Jackson, Mississippi. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
