Melissa Rodgers Harris was born on April 19, 1952 in Shaw, Mississippi to the late John Wesley Rodgers and Rebecca Rodgers.
Trusting in the Lord and Savior, Melissa confessed her faith in Christ at an early age at Poplar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Boyle, Mississippi, under the leadership of Reverend C. L. Harris.
Melissa Rodgers Harris departed this life on October 6, 2015 at 6:35 p.m., at Merit Health Central in Jackson, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by: her father, John Wesley Rodgers; sister, Mary Lee Wade; daughter, Dywana Michelle Rodgers; and a special friend, Aletha Wilson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: five children, one son, Willie Rodgers of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four daughters, LeKetha Harris, Latonia Harris (Patrick), Cadelia Harris and Ventina Rodgers, all of Edwards, Mississippi; a loving mother, Rebecca Rodgers; one sister, Brenda Rodgers Thomas (Calvin) of Boyle, Mississippi; five brothers, A.W. Rodgers (Diana), J.W. Rodgers (Shirley), Ernest Joe Rodgers, and Alexander Rodgers, all of Boyle, Mississippi and Jerry Rodgers of Augusta, Georgia; twenty-five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends, Vera White, Dorothy Birdsong, Robbin Birdsong and Linda Burteson.
