Obituray

Vallie Mae Thigpen Rankin was born on December 18, 1908 in Jasper County, Mississippi to the late Will and Alice Thigpen.

Vallie was educated in the Jones County public schools and she graduated from Oak Park High School.  Because of her love for children and education, Vallie worked for 10 years as a teacher's aide in Raleigh, MS.  She also kept children in her home for 30 years.  She taught children about the Lord, educated them academically and fed them nutritionally and spirtually.

Vallie was joined in holy matrimony to Malachi (M.C.) Rankin; and to this union one daughter was born.

M. C. and Vallie began their lives together in East St. Louis, IL.  After moving home to Mississippi, they joined Goodwater CME Church (Goodwater).  Though they move to Jackson MS,  Vallie remained a faithful member at Goodwater for 37 years.  She served on the Usher Board for 30 years and on the Stewardess Board for 20 years.

When Vallie was unable to attend church, she still participated financially and through her prayers.  Because of her faithfulness, the church began the Vallie Mae Rankin Scholarship Fund to educate "the future church", as Vallie lovingly referred to the youth.

Vallie was preceded in death by her husband Malachi (M.C.) Rankin; her parents: Will and Alice Thigpen; her stepmom: Callie Thigpen; three sisters:  Willie Mae Ward, Clairette Williams, and Exie Jonson; and two brothers: Charlie and Herbert Thigpen.

To cherish her memories, Valleie leaves one daughter: Mary Alice Rankin Smith;  one granddaughter: Bridgett Payton-Boone(Howard); one greatdaughter: Brooke Payton; nephew Joseph Ward (Evangeline); stepdaughter: Juanita West (Terrell); four sisters:
Henrietta McNair, Irma Knight, Anna Lee Thigpen, and Martha McColluim; two brothers: William Thigpen (Bessie), and Wilson Thigpen (Josephine), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and the Goodwater CME Church Family.
