Sister Joe Ann Tory was born March 7, 1943, in Copiah County, Mississippi, to the late Joe Tory and Eliza-Tory Gibbs.  God transitioned her to her new home early Monday morning, August 29, 2016.

She confessed Christ at an early age at the Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi.  Joe Ann joined the choir under the directorship of Mr. James Hawkins where she sang for many years.  She completed her education in the Hinds County Public School System.  She worked at Jackson Packing Company for a number of years and was supervisor of maintenance at the food court in the Metro Center Mall until she became disabled.  For many years, she was active in the Oak Grove heroin of Jericho.

She did not allow her disability to limit her in life.  She traveled with the family and the Cherry Grove Youth Ministry, visited the sick, drove her car, shopping, took care of all of her business, continued coming to church and she truly liked going out to restaurants to eat.  Also, she attended the Career Development Center in Jackson, Mississippi, and become certified in cake baking.  She loved lying on her couch listening to television Ministries, especially Jimmy Swaggart, and reading her Bible daily.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by:  six sisters, Josephine Tory, Lena L. Strong, Mattie B Tory, Eliza Tory, Mary Myles and Ruby Hill;  Five nephews, Willie B. Tory, Joseph Tory, Karthur Myles,  Michael Tory, Michael Tory, and Willie B. Tory whom she helped raise.

She leaves a daughter and granddaughter who were the center of her heart, Vernetha Tory Caston and Chasity Nicole Caston, respectively;  one brother, Joe (Johnnie B.) Tory of Saginaw, Michigan; four nieces, Mary Tory, Verlene (John)
