Obituary
In the early morning hours on Saturday, June 9th, our Heavenly Father called Mother Turner to her heavenly home. Mary Marshall Turner was born on November 16, 1937, in Hinds County, Mississippi to Walter Eugene and Alice Mae Jenkins Marshall. She was the eleventh of fourteen children. She was preceded n death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, and one granddaughter (Ashley Nicole Hunter).
She received her academic education at Gillespie Elementary at New Hope, Edwards Jr. High, Utica High School, Utica Jr. College, and Jackson State University. Mama received her religious education first from home with Papa and Grandma, then at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend L.W. Jenkins.
On February 5, 1961, Mama married the love of her life, Robert Turner Sr., and to this union four children were born. Believing strongly in education, she and dad insisted that all four children get their high school diploma and further their education by attending college.
Not only was academic education important, religious education was important too. As a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 467, Mama served as a member of the Mother's Board, and Usher Board. She was a member and Sunday School Secretary of the First Baptist Union of Hinds County, Hinds County Women's Home Mission Institute, and the Heroines of Jericho #148.
Mama worked at St. Dominic Hospital and later worked at Deposit Guaranty National Bank for many years until her retirement.
