Obituary
Ms. Peggy Elaine Chaffin was born on May 4, 1954 in Pocahontas, Mississippi, to the late Emma Cook Chaffin and Clarence Chaffin, Sr., and her biological father was the late Lemon Palmer. She was the fourth of six children.
Peggy accepted Christ at an early age and joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C. C. Buckley, followed by the Reverend John C. Hunter, and lastly Reverend Joseph L. Taylor. On the morning of her sunset, January 29, 2018, she transitioned to her heavenly home while sleeping peacefully in her bed.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, her brother, Fredrick Anthony Chaffin; her sister Jo Mina Cottrell; her baby son, Larry Donnell Chaffin; and the first love, David Bryant.
Peggy attended Jackson Public Schools, particularly G. N. Smith Elementary, Powell Jr. High and Brinkley High School. She, like her sister Pat was an avid supporter of Jackson State University.
Peggy had been sick for a long time, suffering from complications of diabetes and heart disease. Her favorite songs were, "Walk Around Heaven" and her most requested song to sing was, "Lord, Thank You Sir." She enjoyed her family and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, watching her cooking show, singing her songs, watching Wheel of Fortune, and working in her puzzle books.
She leaves to mourn her passing: two daughters, Marchelle Chaffin and Jo Mina Marie Chaffin; one son, Edward Lee Chaffin; one brother, Clarence (Hazel) Chaffin, Jr.; two sisters, Emma Mae Chaffin and Patricia Ann Chaffin; two aunts, Dorothy P. Williams and Mary Mounger; an uncle, Joseph Palmer; a brother-in-law, David Cottrell; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jermane, Kittrell, April, Ashleigh, Davian, Tyresia, Christian and Kaylah; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, cousins and friends who cared deeply for her.
