Obituary

On Sunday, March 22, 2015, at 9:58 p.m., the Lord stopped by the University Mississippi Medical Center and whispered, "Servant you have preached the word, brought souls to me, sung songs of praise, and lived the life I told you to live.  You have fought your fight and your battle is now over.  Come home and take your rest."

Stanley Ray Garner, was born to the late Howard Garner Sr., and Dessie Ree Wells Garner in Hinds County, Mississippi on January 19, 1964.

He attended Lovett Elementary and Sumner Hill High School, both in Clinton, Mississippi.

He was employed with the Clinton Public School system for many years and was most recently employed with Jackson Public Schools, where he worked in the Graphic and Print Design department.

He confessed his life to Christ at an early age at Baker's Grove M.B. Church in Jackson, Mississippi under the leadership of the late Rev.  W.W. Warren.  While attending this church, he received his calling into the ministry and went on to attend the Mississippi Baptist Seminary Shortly afterwards.  His initial pastoral journey began while he was serving as interim pastor at Baker's Grove M.B. Church.

Stanley was later led to Brownsville M.B. Church in Bolton, Mississippi where he eventually joined the church in 2002 under the leadership of Rev. Eddie Gibson.  He always admired the wisdom and knowledge that Rev.  Gibson shared with him and was honored to have been given the opportunity to serve as one of the Sons of the House of Brownsville alongside the pastor.  After Rev.  Gibson's death in 2004, Stanley was installed as the 20th pastor of Brownsville on January 16, 2005.  He served and led the church faithfully and was recently honored and recognized for his 10 years of dedicated ministry and service on January 18, 2015.

He will be remembered for his soul stirring sermons and encouraging messages.  One of his most memorable sermons was "Prayer Will Change Things" where he encouraged his congregation to remain faithful and continue to pray and trust God.  And even though you might not see your blessing, it's on the way!  Pastor Garner was a kind, humble man with great love for family and friends.  He had a great sense of humor and brought laughter and love to all he encountered.  He will also be remembered for his infectious smile.

Pastor Stanley Garner leaves to cherish his memories; a loving mother, Mrs. Dessie Ree Wells Garner of Jackson, MS, one sister, Vickie M. Wells of Clinton, MS.  Three brothers, Howard Garner Jr. (Felecia) of Jackson, MS  John H. Garner (Willie Mae) of Flora, MS  and Joseph K.
